Pierre Emmanuel Guerin was born in Brittany, France,
August 17th, 1833. He emigrated to New York City in his youth and in 1857
started in business for himself at 1-1/2 Marion St. After subsequent moves to
197 Wooster St., 220 Wooster St. and 24 west Third St., he set up P.E. Guerin,
Inc. at its present location at 21-23 & 25 Jane Street in 1892.
P.E. Guerin was one of the pioneers in artistic metalwork in New York City and examples of his production may be found in various public buildings, parks and important residences throughout the country. He was succeeded by his son, Emmanuel Pierre Guerin, followed by his son's wife Marguerita V. Guerin and then his great nephew, Arthur C. Ward. Today the company is owned and directed by his great grand nephew, Arthur F. Ward, the fourth generation in this fine family business. P.E. Guerin, Inc. and its family have always stood for the highest quality and finest service and maintains this standard today. |

This is a very heavy,
all cast lamp, including the shade cover. The duplex burner knobs are marked "Geo. J. Salch - New York". The lamp measures approx 26" x 15" with a 10" fitter and is all original, still in oil and original finish. The bottom is marked P.E. Guerin. It was manufactured in New York City probably in the 1880's. While similar in appearance to a Harvard, it is much larger, heavier and has much more detail.
